Four ways onto a screen, and the one step they all share

Most devices install from the Play Store. Media players without it take the APK from a stick or over ADB. Whichever route you take, the screen is paired from your dashboard in under a minute.

  1. Install from Google Play

    On an Android TV or media player, open the Play Store and search for Imagine Signage. This is the route to prefer wherever the device has the Play Store: updates arrive on their own, so a fleet does not drift onto different builds.

  2. Sideload the APK from a USB stick

    For devices with no Play Store. Copy the APK to a stick, open the device's file manager and select it. Android asks once for permission to install from that app - allow it under Settings → Apps → Special access → Install unknown apps, then run the file again.

  3. Install over ADB

    The fastest route when the device is on your network. Enable Developer options → USB debugging, then:
    adb connect <device-ip>:5555
    adb install -r app-release.apk
    -r reinstalls over an existing copy and keeps the screen paired.

  4. Pair the screen

    Launch the player. It shows a pairing ID and code. In your dashboard open Screens → Add screen, enter that ID and code (or scan the QR code), and the screen appears in the list straight away - ready for a playlist.

  5. Let it start itself

    A screen that reboots should come back playing. Turn on Display over other apps for the player, and set it as the boot app if the device offers one. It then relaunches on power-on and after the screen wakes, with no remote control involved.

  6. Check it before you leave site

    Publish a playlist and watch it land. The dashboard shows the screen online, its current item and a screenshot, so you can confirm from your own desk what is actually on the wall - and the player keeps playing from its own storage if the connection drops.
